If you love chicken but are unable to pay the high prices for chicken breasts or chicken wings. You may want to try out some chicken thighs. They are dark meat and often much cheaper than other chicken parts.

Peanut Butter

No need to buy name-brand peanut butter. You can get a huge jar of generic and eat it for weeks. Peanut butter is not just for sandwiches. It can be made into peanut sauce, and adds some protein to fruit like bananas. 

Lentils

Lentils come from a plant called a legume. These little powerhouses are filling, and many people suggested trying a recipe for spiced lentils. It will have you add lentils to  to your low-budget shopping list. 

Plain Yogurt

Plain yogurt is a great staple to have at your house. It can be used to create creamy sauces or can be eaten for lunch or a snack with some fruit or nuts. You can even flavor it with drink mixins.

Frozen Vegetables

There is no difference between frozen and fresh. That is except for the price. You can normally buy bags of frozen vegetables for between $.50-$1.50 depending on the size and type of vegetable. Fresh are much more expensive

Tortillas

When you’re shopping, try grabbing some tortillas. They freeze very well and can be microwaved in a couple of minutes. Plus, using those tortillas to make a variety of burritos also makes for a quick and delicious lunch or dinner. Many times a tortilla with beans, tuna, chicken, etc is more filling than a sandwich. 

Ground Beef

Ground beef comes in packages of 1lb or more. One person suggests buying a package of ground beef that is 5 lbs or more. Portion it out into individual bags for meals or use to make other things like meatballs, meatloaf, etc. 

Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is a good and inexpensive protein. If it’s not a taste you enjoy. Try blending it until smooth, and use it anywhere you’d use sour cream or cream cheese.  

Costco Chicken

If you can get a membership to Costco, you can get a whole-cooked chicken for just $5. This can easily be made into multiple meals, and you can even use the bones to make bone broth for future meals. 

Cheese

Shredded, sliced, blocks, all cheese is the same, and it can make almost any meal tasty! Some people even buy large blocks on sale, shred them, and freeze the shredded cheese for future options. 

Oats

Oats are a prime example of a wallet-friendly yet nutritious option. They are full of fiber, vitamins, and minerals without straining your finances. People have suggested classic oatmeal to homemade granola bars because these meals can energize you throughout the day without putting a dent in your budget.
