Why is Self Care Important for Mothers?
Do you ever find that as a Mom your self-care always comes last? Me too, that’s why I put together a great at-home self-care routine that you can use anytime. When was the last time you did a self-care routine just for you? Moms seem to lack in the self-care routine far too often. When was the last time you took an hour for yourself where you could focus on caring for yourself and no one else? How do Stay At Home Moms Take Care of Themselves?
That’s what we’re aiming to find out today and I’ll show you how to do it. We deserve the time to pamper ourselves as moms and we need to take time away from the crazy house stuff and Mom stuff and take care of ourselves. Here is a new at-home self-care routine just for you. Download it, print it, and keep it in your room or in your bathroom so you can make sure you are taking the time to make yourself a priority too.
You don’t have to do everything on the list every day but make sure it becomes part of your routine so you can be sure to relax, unwind and take care of yourself. Us Moms need an at-home self-care routine just for us.
How do I Make Myself Time as a Working Mom?
Sometimes we can’t get out to the salon to get our nails done, or our hair done. I think it’s important that we make sure that even if we can’t find the time to get out that we have everything we need at home to make sure we have some time to focus on ourselves.
The things I have listed here are things you can fit in after work, before work, maybe even some on a lunch break, or once the kids are in bed. Self-care is not selfish and we need to make it a priority in our lives. These self-care ideas for stress are so that we also make ourselves a priority so we can look and feel our best.
How do I Look After Myself as a Mother?
Once you become a mother it gets harder to take the time out for yourself, I get that, but it’s not healthy and your family will benefit immensely from you being taken care of and more relaxed. I’m sure you’ve heard it before but I’m going to tell you again. You cannot pour from an empty cup. I don’t know why or where the idea came from that Moms had to do it all.
We are expected to cook, clean, take care of the kids, work, juggle homework help, extracurricular activities, and more. All of that is just expected-of us and if we do it, great, and if we can’t or we don’t do it all we feel like we aren’t good enough and didn’t do enough. Why is that?
Here’s the thing. You are good enough, you did do enough AND, you can probably do a bit more and feel a little better about it IF you took more time for yourself. I’m not saying you need to do more or should do more, I’m saying let’s live our lives on purpose and get through it while taking care of ourselves.
I know when I take the time to take care of myself I feel motivated and happy and ready to take it all on. I’m much more productive and I’m a happier mom if I’ve taken the time to take care of myself FIRST. That’s right, ME FIRST.
At-Home Self Care Routine for Moms
Take a bath
Light some candles, drop a bath bomb, bubble bath, or some Epson salts in the bath, and relax. Maybe take your bath tray in with some wine and your book and read quietly for a while. Let yourself escape and relax in your warm bubble bath girl, you deserve it.
Lotion with your Favourite Products
This might seem so simple and to some maybe it’s already part of your routine which is great but since I never seem to remember to lotion I decided to add this one in here for other Moms like me. Take out that lotion and use it, it feels so nice on your skin and you can totally feel the difference when you take the time to moisturize.
Paint your nails
Give yourself a mani and pedi girl! Even if you don’t have all the tools you need, grab a nail file and some nail clippers and get those nails looking nice again. When your nails are done you just feel better and more like you’ve got it all together. Take some time out of your week to paint your nails. You’ll be glad you did.
Use a Face Mask
A face mask is something you can do in 20 minutes. Grab a face mask and pamper your skin once a week with a soothing face mask. Amazon has a great set that I love for quick easy to use face masks. This pack has a great variation for you to try each week.
Use a Hair Mask
Hair Masks are another thing I always forget to do. Our hair needs a little pampering too. There are some really great hair treatments you can do at home. If you’re looking for one to try, I love this hair treatment, it smells so good and is my favorite one to use, it smells like coconut heaven!
Yoga
Guys, if you haven’t tried yoga I highly suggest it. It makes you feel so good. Our bodies go through so much and yoga helps you release some stress and anxiety and it helps your body recover from so much wear and tear. I love how yoga makes me feel and love how it helps my anxiety and stress. There are tons of YouTube videos that offer free yoga classes for you to try.
You won’t be disappointed you tried. Have you been thinking about starting yoga again, or have you been curious about it? Give it a try, the time is now.
Mediate
If you’re a returning reader of titlefreemom.com then you already know I am a big believer in mediation. When you meditate you go to a different place, it’s a place of peace and hope. A place of hopes and dreams and a place of stillness. It’s something we all need and all crave. I believe that it’s where all our untapped superpowers are and I believe that the secret to us all living our best lives lies in the place we reach when we meditate.
Find yourself, listen to your greater good, your superpower, your universe, your God. Whatever it is, find it and tap into your untold story. Find your peace, release your anxiety and fears and focus on what is around us and amazing.
Write in your journal
Writing in a journal is another powerful self-care for Moms. We carry around a lot, it’s good to let it out. Start a journal that you can write in every day or even any time you think about it or feel up to it. It’s so amazing to look back and see where you were at one point in your life. Journalling is a great way to release stress and anxiety and find a little more clarity on what you’re feeling and experiencing.
Sometimes writing in your journal will help you take action if you can or let go of what you can’t control. I’ve written many journals throughout my life and it’s amazing to look back and read the entries. You can grab free anxiety journal pages here if you don’t have a journal or if you’re experiencing anxiety and want a guided worksheet that helps you move past your anxiety.
Do your Make Up
Easy right? It really is, make it a point to get up and do your makeup. We tend to feel better when we do our makeup, we feel pretty and happier because of it. Sometimes it’s all we need to put a little extra pep in our step.
Listen to music
Listening to music can release stress and help you calm down pretty quickly. It changes your mood and helps you de compress as a mom. Moms are always so overwhelmed with day to day, add a little music to your day and see if it helps your mood. There’s nothing like a mid afternoon dance party in the kitchen to relive some Moms stress.
Watch a Show or Movie
Another one that seems easy but we often don’t do. Take that downtime Mom, you need it. Relax, the dishes can wait, the laundry will still be there after you take some time for yourself. Find a show you love to watch and watch it. Sit in your living room or bedroom and chill out. Unwind. Enjoy a little tv time.
Declutter your Room
I’ve often noticed that clutter makes me feel more uptight, anxious, and stressed. If you’re at home and you feel like this and you’re not sure why? Try a decluttering challenge. Pick a room, anything that you see onto of a countertop or table or dresser, clear it. Unless you use it every day get it off your countertops or furniture. Clear it all up.
De-cluttering a room can make you feel so good. If you want to take this to the next step, donate anything that you haven’t used in the last year. Chances are if you haven’t used it in a year you don’t need it.
Read a Book
We are so lucky that there are so many amazing and inspirational authors out there right now. If you’re feeling down or in a funk and want to relax I highly recommend anything by Rachel Hollis, Gabby Bernstein or Jen Sincero. These ladies know how to pump you up and make sure you’re living your best life! Another great option that I’ve been using is listening to my books when I can’t get to sitting down and reading. Sometimes it’s nice to listen to a book while you’re getting other stuff done.
I’ve been listening to books during my workday and I feel so great about it! The options are endless, listen while you work out, cook, clean, relax in a bath. It’s a great option if you’re just not into reading the book or don’t have time. If you want to give listening to an audiobook a try you can do so right now and get three audiobooks free by clicking here.
Recite some Mantras
When I first started using mantras I was so skeptical. I remember feeling so overwhelmed and stressed out. I wrote down a few mantras that I had heard from Gabby Bernstein’s book and took them to my room one day. I sat in the quiet and just started breathing and reciting a couple of mantras slowly. I listened to my breathing and focused on my breath and kept repeating them slowly.
You will feel your stress and anxiety melt away while reciting mantras. If you want some mantras to try out you can download some great ones here for free. Print them off and keep them somewhere that you can use whenever you feel stressed out or overwhelmed.
The next time you’re feeling stressed out or overwhelmed please remember this list and try to do a little at-home self-care. Even when you’re not feeling stressed out remember that you deserve some time for yourself and self-care is so important. Make sure you get your me time and make sure to put yourself first Mama.
What Self Care is Not
Do not every think that self care is selfish. It is not. It is necessary and required. So often we put ourself last and then one day we find ourselves tired, over worked and exhausted. Feeling like this means we didn’t take care of ourselves in order to take care of our families. Do not think self care is selfish. What self care is not, is it is not selfish. Period.
