Phew. Someone recently took to the internet to ask an interesting question, would you care if your husband wanted to do a quick basic cheap DNA test to ensure the kids are 100% his? Why? There are some pretty interesting responses. Here are the top-voted confessions.

Nothing To Hide, But There’s a Bigger Issue

One wife answered, “I wouldn’t be opposed to the actual request because I have nothing to hide.

But the fact that he felt the need to ask 100% indicates his lack of trust in the marriage. So that is the more significant issue I would be seriously concerned about.”

I’ve Offered It

Another volunteered, “I’ve offered it to my boyfriend for our one and only child to shut up all the naysayers in his family who were telling him it wasn’t his. And he said my offering is even more suspicious than not offering. The kid is yours. Do it or don’t. I don’t care.”

It Sounds Like a Recipe for a Divorce

One man shared, “Husband, father, and grandfather here, but this sounds like a recipe for a divorce. The mere thought suggests they are on the rocks.”

I Wouldn’t Care

Another woman shared, I would not care. My husband discovered late in life that he has a different biological father due to DNA testing, which crushed him. I would understand that the test has more to do with that circumstance than his trust in me.

That being said, even after going through everything with his dad, he never tested our kids. Still, I told him multiple times to go for it, and I’d be fine!”

One wive semi-jokingly replied, “Our kid looks so similar to my husband that her face unlocks his phone. So sure, do the test.” Another shared that babies tend to look more like their fathers initially. It is an evolutionary survival mechanism to convince fathers to care for their young.

Peace of Mind

Someone confessed that they wouldn’t care. Saying if they had a child, I’d do the test themself. “I have this nightmare scenario: my child is switched at birth in a hospital. I’d do this for my peace of mind.” Many noted that they tag your baby immediately. So it won’t happen now.

I’d Care Big Time

“Darn straight,” one responded. “I’d care big time because it implies that he doubts me, my fundamental character, and the relationship and family we’ve built together.”

In cases where a relationship has been through infidelity and conflict, they understood that the question of parentage needs to be resolved – for the sake of parents and children.

I’d Be Hurt and Mad

Several wives in the thread confessed they would be hurt and mad by the insinuation. One elaborated that her kids were grown and would likely be equally upset by the husband’s request.

Couples Therapy

Many wives suggested they’d be willing to abide, but it would mean couple’s therapy. One explained, “If he wants a paternity test, he needs to also agree to couples therapy to discuss bigger issues in the marriage.”

Only If I Can Look Through His Phone

Finally, one Redditor confessed, “I would be offended and assume that meant he didn’t trust me. But then I’d suggest I take the test if he lets me go through his phone. Like, if he’s paranoid, that’s going to make me paranoid.
