Dream journaling is a beautiful practice for recording vivid dreams and nightmares while helping to give insight into your unconscious mind. There are a few different ways people track their dreams for further reflection. Here are the top ways to dream journal according to the internet.

1. Voice Recording

Many people agree that voice recording methods of recording their dreams is the most efficient and quickest way to document them before they forget the details.

Someone stated, “I will combine it with an actual journal in the future. I found that recording right after waking up is easier than just dishing out all information with maximum output and minimal memory loss. And after recording, I can write it down.”

Another confessed, “I use the voice recording feature on the Temenos Dream app. Highly recommend.” A third volunteered, “I use a laptop and Audacity, a free recording application for Windows and Mac.

Finally, a fourth shared, “Same – voice recording. I don’t even wake up. I shout things out while I’m in bed. And hope in the morning I get the connection. I run a recorder all night long. It also helps to identify deep sleep cycles – usually, snoring accompanies deep sleep.”

2. Phones

In addition to voice recordings, dream journalers use their phones. One stated, “My phone because it is convenient. I can pick it up right when I wake up and write down what I remember. I would like to know how lucid dreaming has been for people who don’t keep a dream journal.”.

Another admitted, “I use that microphone on the keyboard, which makes everything easy. You talk, and your phone writes stuff for you. Genius, whoever made that feature.”

A third user replied, “Phone but then write it up in a physical diary by hand later in the day. This method allows me to revisit my dreams and make a little more sense of them later. It has also helped increase lucid dreaming because it reveals how vital the pre-bedtime routine is.”

“As a result, I’m now consistent at waking up in at least one dream of my choosing per night.” Finally, one admitted, “That would work well for me too, but I always get paranoid that some family member will read my journal, so I only use my phone.”

3. Discord

Someone shared, “I have a personal Discord channel. I find it more organized and easy to look back on than using the phone notes app.” Another confirmed, “I use Microsoft Word, and I go into a Discord server with a dream journal channel for documenting recurring dreams and vivid details.”

4. Computer

Someone stated, “Laptop. I’m not too fond of paper. If you want to move a sentence or change a word, you have to get rid of everything after it and then rewrite it, or it looks like trash, and even if you do, there’s a bunch of eraser marks unless you rub it so much you risk ripping the paper.”

“Especially because sometimes one of my entries can be the size of an entire sitcom episode script. I would also have to take a bunch of breaks cause writing hurts my hand.”
