Tomatoes
Tomato’s-with so many different varieties, Tomatoes are an excellent vegetable to grow.
You can grow cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, and plum tomatoes in pots. There are also some neat upside-down tomato plants that you can buy and hang on your patio.
Tomatoes need A LOT of suns, at least 8 hours a day, so make you plant your crops in direct sunlight. Water and weed frequently, and harvest often to promote fruit production.
Cucumbers
Cucumbers are a refreshing vegetable, and it grows in abundance once ripened.
They need a good amount of space in the ground to grow, at least 4 feet apart from each row, and if planting in a pot, I would recommend planting 2-3 seeds and then thinning the herd to only one seedling per pot.
Chose the seedling that looks and feels the strongest.
Another veggie that needs to be harvested frequently and watered when necessary. Cucumbers grow best in soil that is damp, not soggy.
Radishes
Radishes, one of the fastest-growing veggies, this peppery and crunchy vegetable is an excellent addition to salads or on its own with a little bit of salt.
Radishes can be planted in pots or on the ground and ready to harvest in as little as 24 days.
They need to be harvested quickly, so pull them out and enjoy them as soon as they grow to an edible size!
Beets
Beets are another easy vegetable to grow, and they are also a multi-functional crop. You can eat the leaves of the beet too!
There are so many beautiful beets to choose from, and you won’t be disappointed with whichever variety you choose. If growing in a pot, you need one at least ten inches deep.
You also need to thin your beet seedlings out to ensure the roots grow to the proper size.
Peppers
Temperature is really important in growing peppers.
The seedlings germinate best when taking advantage of the warmth of your home, so it is recommended to start them indoors when growing them in pots.
When planting your peppers in soil, the outdoor temperature should be above 10C or 50 F. They like to grow in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or a pot.
Their bestie is the tomato plant, so if you can plant them close to one another.
Lettuce
You could have the absolute worst green thumb in the world, and you will still grow lettuce.
In pots or in the ground, lettuce thrives in all seasons, as long as it is watered when needed and shaded from the direct sunlight.
Zucchini
Zucchini is not the most ideal vegetable to grow in a pot; Zucchini needs lots of space to flourish. However, Zucchini is one of those vegetables that grow in abundance.
You’ll have one or two plants that produce so much that you’ll be handing them out to your neighbors daily! They like to be watered frequently and love the sun.
Potatoes
Potatoes are a hearty vegetable, and potatoes can be easier grown in pots than planted in the ground!
They like lots of sun, so be sure to place them in an area that gets lots of beautiful sun rays. It is recommended to plant them in pots no larger than 2 feet, and you’ll need to fertilize them every two weeks. T
They also like soil, so once the plant starts to grow, and hits about 8 inches tall, add an additional 2 inches of potting soil and continue this practice every two weeks.
Green Beans
Plant green beans at the end of your garden, and you will have a bush bean that will be ready to pick at the end of the Summer. They’re ready for picking once they’re about 5′ long and easy to snap off!
Herbs
Sure, they’re not vegetables, but many herbs are easy to grow, and you can find the most at your local nursery. They look and smell great and would be perfect for planting around your vegetable garden.
Some great herbs to start with are Basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and cilantro. they’re easy to grow and taste wonderful.
