A Reddit user shares her story of her mom and sister giving her dog away because it was getting territorial with the dog her sister brought home.
The Troubles Begin
The original poster (OP) explains that she has had a German Shepherd for a year and a half, and her sister recently expressed that she wanted a dog as well. OP advised against it because her dog could become nervous and territorial around new dogs. Her sister got the new dog anyway, and as OP warned, her German Shepherd became territorial.
One day, when OP was on her way home from school, she saw that her sister had put up a Craigslist ad for her dog. OP was very upset and cried to her mom, who told her she could keep her dog.

Unforgivable
Unfortunately, a couple of days later, OP got home and was told that her dog had been sent to a “better home.” Her mom and sister said that the dog had also been getting into the field next door and annoying the farmer who lived there. OP felt that it had more to do with her dog being territorial with her sister’s new dog.
She feels betrayed by her mom and sister and hasn’t been talking to them. OP says they are becoming annoyed with her, but she feels she isn’t in the wrong because she wasn’t given the chance to say goodbye to her dog. OP’s friends are also on her side. OP also notes that her dog has never hurt anyone.
Were OP’s mom and sister right to rehome the dog? Is OP justified in her hurt and anger? What would you have done in this situation?
