A Reddit user shares her story of her husband demanding to know the gender of their baby after he refused to go to the doctor’s appointment.
First Time Parents
The original poster (OP) explained that she and her husband are expecting their first baby together, but he barely goes to any of the doctor’s appointments. He always makes excuses and says, “I’m not the one carrying the baby, why do I have to go see the Dr. with you?”

She also said. “He’s willing to miss the dr appointment over soccer or a drink or board game with friends. His response is always, “I’m not the one carrying the baby. Why do I have to go see the dr with you?”
Last week, OP said she was all set to go to the gender reveal appointment but that her husband backed out last minute because his friend invited him out for “fish n chips”. OP wasn’t happy but brought her mom with her instead. Her husband texted her after the appointment, asking her to tell him the gender, but OP refused.

There’s Always a Consequence
OP’s husband began spam-calling her, but OP kept hanging up. Later, he came home furious and demanded to know the gender of the baby. OP refused and told him that since he wasn’t at the appointment, he didn’t get to know the results. She said he could wait until after the baby was born.
Her husband called her spiteful and immature for punishing him like this. He said that he has the right to know since he’s the father. He also called her dramatic, but OP held her ground. He told his family and they are pressuring OP to “stop playing mind games” and tell him, but OP refused.
OP’s husband attempted to contact the doctor to find out the results but couldn’t get them since his mom was the one who called.
Redditors Weigh In
“I would drop a friend if I found out they prioritised fish n chips over their wife and baby’s doctor appointment.”
Another commented, “Why is his family not on HIS ass about missing Dr appointments? You are supposed to be going through this together.”
“deadbeats are great at finding deadbeat friends. His friends would probably call him pu**y-whipped if he were to care for his pregnant wife and kids.”
Sounds like most are on OP’s side. You can read the full thread here.
Is OP right to refuse to tell her husband the gender of the baby? Should OP’s husband have gone to the appointment? How would you have reacted in this situation?
