It’s Here!! Taylor Swift Releases 1989 (Taylor’s Version)

Taylor Swift has re-released her album ‘1989’ as she continues to re-take ownership of her work. The international singing sensation, who is currently in the midst of a world tour that will go deep into 2024, has been re-releasing her albums for a couple of years now after a dispute with her former record label. 

The “master” recordings of her first six albums don’t currently belong to Swift, but by releasing her version of each one, she is hoping to override the originals. The re-release of 1989 is the fourth album that Swift has re-released after “Fearless,” “Speak Now” and “Red.” 

Announcing her decision to rerecord and rerelease her work back in 2021, the hitmaker wrote on Instagram “Artists should own their own work for so many reasons, but the most screamingly obvious one is that the artist is the only one who really knows that body of work.”

Rereleasing 1989

The re-release of 1989 has perhaps been the most anticipated. Back in 2014, when the original was released, it marked the first time that Swift went all-in on pop music with hits like “Shake it Off,” “Bad Blood,” and “Blank Space” all featuring on the record. 

All three of those hits made it to number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, which has made many people label 1989 as Swift’s most popular and best album. Other notable tracks include “Wildest Dreams” and “Style,” which also performed well globally. 

The album was re-released at midnight on Friday, October 27th, with Swift taking to Instagram to notify fans. In a post, she said: “I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of this album I love so dearly. I present to you, with gratitude and wonder, my version of 1989.”

The re-release of 1989 is slightly different from the original, with Swift including several new “vault” tracks to the record, just as she has with her three other rereleases. The new tracks on Taylor’s version of 1989 are titled “S—,” “Don’t Say Go,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Suburban Legends,” and “Is It Over Now?”

These tracks have been hotly anticipated by Swifties ever since the singer announced that 1989 would be getting a rerelease. At the time, Swift said that 1989 had been her “most favorite to re-record” thanks to what she described as “insane” vault tracks. Her fans can now listen to these vault tracks through various streaming platforms. 

Continuing to make headlines

The re-release of the album that made her a global superstar is quite timely as it comes during a period when Swift is attracting more media coverage than ever. As well as being in the thick of her “Eras” Tour, she has also recently started dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Swift has been pictured at several NFL football matches across the country, with the pair reportedly going from strength to strength. Last weekend, she was spotted giving Kelce a kiss following Kansas City’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, all but confirming that the pair are indeed more than friends.
