Jennifer Lopez has been a mother for 15 years now after giving birth to twins Emme and Max, back in 2008. The pop icon and actress has always been a proud mom, and she is proving that once again this year by starring in Coach’s campaign for Mother’s Day ahead of next month’s celebrations.
The aim of the campaign is to celebrate the best aspects of motherhood and, of course the fashion brand’s latest designer bags. Speaking about the campaign and why it resonated with her, Lopez said:
“Coach is celebrating the many, many sides of moms. Every child is unique and special in their own way, and it’s our nurturing that helps them blossom.”
In one of the photographs used for the shoot, Lopez is pictured with a tote bag, while in another, she is holding Coach’s pink Rogue 25 bag. The mom of two says that both bags would be great additions to anyone’s Mother’s Day wish list.
Passing on the lessons she’s learned
The campaign isn’t all about trying to sell designer bags, however, with a key component of the launch all about motherhood and Lopez’s own experience as a parent.
Recently, the 53-year-old became step-mom when she married Ben Affleck, who has three children of his own (Violet, 17, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 10) whom he shares with Jenniffer Garner – the 50-year-old’s ex-wife of 13 years.
Within the clips released by Coach, J-Lo talks about the lessons she learned when she was a child. For her, it’s imperative that she passes on these lessons to her children and step-children. Lopez says:
“Everything about my upbringing informs me as a person and as a mother today – the things I learned about working hard, being a good person, and following your dreams. All of those things that I learned when I was little that my mom and dad tried to teach me, I try to pass on to the kids as well.
Every child that you meet, it’s our nurturing that helps them blossom. But at the end of the day, all we need is love.”
Being a Mom to Teenagers
When Lopez and Affleck went their separate ways in 2004, no one could have predicted that nearly 20 years later, things would come full circle and the pair would reunite with a combined five kids between them.
However, life is unpredictable, and the two megastars are now in a position where they have to parent four teenagers at the same time – a situation that will undoubtedly be challenging. As part of the campaign, Lopez opens up about these challenges:
“You know, everybody warns you about this stage (when your children become teenagers), and it’s definitely different from when they were little, but you have to grow with your kids. They wind up teaching you; you evolve as a person because you have to.
It’s all about finding the balance between being a partner, a friend, and a parent. To be able to know when to comfort them, when to be firm with them, and when to set boundaries. That’s really kind of the trick of motherhood.”
