Why Did Paris Hilton Wait a Week Before Telling her Mother that her Baby had Been Born?

Paris Hilton has done many things throughout her career to grab the headlines and although her days as a party-mad socialite are over, she is still doing things unconventionally.

Recently, her surrogate gave birth to a healthy baby boy called Phoenix but waited until he was a week old before telling the world, and her own Mom, about his birth.

Upon announcing the arrival of Phoenix in January, Hilton posted a picture on Instagram of her holding her newborn baby’s hand. Accompanying the picture was a caption that read “you are already loved beyond words”. Little does the world know but this was also the same day that her Mom, DJ Kathy Hilton, found out that she had a new grandson.

As Phoenix was born via a surrogate, there would have probably been no signs or indications that the baby had been born which made concealing the birth for a week a much easier task. In the latest episode of her podcast, “This Is Paris,” the 42-year-old said: “We’re just so excited to start our family and can’t wait for you to see him. But for now, we’ve just been keeping everything really private. Not even my mom or my sister or my best friends, no one knew, literally, until he was over a week old.”

The Reason for Keeping it a Secret

Hilton has never been particularly shy when it’s come to sharing aspects of her private life, but she has appeared to draw a line in the sand in relation to taking more control over the privacy of her new son.

Explaining her decision to keep his birth a secret for a week, she said that it was “really nice” for her and her husband, Carter Reum, to start “their own journey together”. She added: “I feel that my life has been so public, and I’ve never really had anything just be mine. I feel like my life in so many ways has been invaded, and I wanted to have this journey be us only.

It was hard to keep it between us because we were so excited and wanted to tell our families, but you’re just nervous because if you tell one person then you know they tell someone, and then all of a sudden it’s in TMZ or Page Six.”

The heiress was so insistent on keeping his birth private that she and her husband made a “pact” not to tell anyone, which they both abided by until she made the post on Instagram.

Opening up

As baby Phoenix continues to grow, so does Hilton’s willingness to share more information about her son with the public. Speaking of the moment her mother met her new grandson, Hilton said that the look on her mother’s face was “priceless”.

She also now shared a few pictures of Phoenix and explained where the idea of the name came from. She said: “Phoenix has a few good pop culture reference points, but more importantly, it’s the bird that flams out and then rises from the ashes to fly again. I want my son to grow up knowing that disaster and triumph go around come around throughout our lives. And that this should give us great hope for the future.”
