Deleting Social Media
“Getting rid of my social media aside from Reddit because I spent hours on it to keep up with friends and family. I realized I kept comparing my physique, success, and life to others and was neglecting time with my husband because I was constantly glued to my phone,” someone confessed.
Limiting Social Media
“Now I only browse here during downtime at work. I work in film in an office, and it’s encouraged to enjoy the slow moments while you can.”
“When I am at home, I don’t pay attention to anything but my husband and dog; I love it. We watch TV, play games, cook, listen to music and talk about life. It significantly improved my life, and I don’t look back! Hubby is happy too!
Practicing Gratitude
One person shared, “Every morning while I have my coffee, I practice gratitude. I write down three things I’m grateful for and three tasks to complete that day – it helps to start the day in a positive mindset and feel accomplished as I check the box on achievable goals throughout the day.”
Making The Bed
Several people agreed making their beds is a good habit with a positive impact. One elaborated, “It might sound stupid, but making my bed daily and keeping my space clean. It sincerely helps the starting the day mentality.”
Journaling
“Journaling. It feels like therapy and has massively changed me and my life,” replied one. Another agreed, “I treat my journal almost as daily therapy. I’ll talk through goals and problems and look at things as if I’m seeing them from an outside perspective. I started with journal prompts, but now I free write too.”
Write Everything Down
“I’ve been writing everything important to me, which significantly eases my brain. When I need to rest, I’m free to relax and let everything go because what’s essential is written down,” admitted one.
“If I’m knee-deep in another subject, I can ease into using all my thoughts towards what is in front of me because everything that’s not relevant right now I write down for later. Also, organizing where you write stuff down is a big help too. Even if it’s just a quick add location that you manage later.”
Quit Drinking
Someone exclaimed, “Not drinking!” “I’m in on this boat now. My moods have stabilized so much. Drinking is fun and all but not when it controls you,” another shared. Finally, a third said, “Same!! My body and mind feel so much better!”
Daily Tidying
“Daily tidying in the morning and afternoon,” one stated. “I started by setting a timer for ten minutes each, but now I do a couple of things that I see need done, usually less than five minutes. It’s such a joy to walk into a clean house daily.”
2. Working Out
“Working out. When I don’t feel like it, I remind myself that mood follows action,” shared one. “Ooooh, I like this,” expressed another.
“I think instead of getting the motivation to go to the gym and dread it, I put it in a different perspective, like ‘I deserve to live in a strong and able body’ or ‘I am lucky to have a vessel capable of doing hard things.”
1. The Cloud Method
The Cloud Method” shared one. “Whenever I have an intrusive thought, I pretend it’s a cloud, and it’s passing by. It’s been a year, and I rarely have intrusive thoughts. Pulling off takes time and commitment, but it’s worth it. Consistency is the key to a lot of things.”
More on the Cloud Method
“I have just started to learn this method. It’s incredible how it does help the negative thoughts—got to keep at it, so it just flows naturally,’ said another.
Finally, someone admitted, “I do something similar. I heard it on the Calm App. Imagine intrusive, obsessive thoughts as a river passing you by. It’s ok to stand on the bank and look at them, knowing they’re just passing by, but don’t jump in the river.”
