Standing for 180 minutes after lunch decreased blood sugar spikes by 43% compared to sitting for the same length of time in a small trial of ten office employees. Both groups performed the same number of steps, indicating that the lower increase was related to standing rather than more physical activities in the workplace.

Another research of 23 office employees showed that switching from sitting to standing every 30 minutes throughout the workday decreased blood sugar increases by 11.1 percent on average. Excessive sedentary time is related to a staggering 112 percent increased risk of type 2 diabetes, which may explain why sitting after meals is so hazardous.
