Have you ever experienced a teacher who crossed the line? We all have memories of our school days, some good and some not so pleasant. But today, let’s dive into those moments that left a lasting impact. What is the worst thing a teacher ever did or said to you? It’s time to share those unforgettable encounters and shed light on the darker side of the education system.
Public Humiliation
To start, one user remembered, “Once, in the seventh grade, two popular girls locked the teacher (who everyone hated) out of the classroom. She stormed in and demanded to know who locked the door. No one said anything. She then singled me out and said that I would get a week’s worth of detention for this because I hadn’t ratted out the girls who locked the door. She then took me into the hall and said one of the most traumatizing things. She told me no one liked me, no one would ever like me, and that I would never have real friends. This was all true; I was the least popular kid in school, but hearing her say it was like a punch in the gut. I just stood there and cried.”
Bullying Behavior
One Redditor wrote, “While he was in middle school, some kid slammed him up against some lockers and broke his arm. The principal refused to believe it was broken, but finally, near the end of the day, he called my mother. Before she had gotten there, the principal told my brother he was worthless and would never amount to anything. “
Verbal Abuse
One sad story was, “In the 1st grade, I felt sick, and my glands were swollen. I held up my hand and asked the teacher about it. She said it was probably because I was fat. It was the mumps, and I ended up in the hospital.”
A second story was, “Had a teacher tell one girl she could sit on his face if she couldn’t find a seat. The same teacher told a bigger girl to go stand in the corner if she could find one that was big enough. He should’ve been fired, but he was a football coach at a football worshiping school.”
Physical Aggression
A crazy comment was, “Not directed at me, but in class, my old Tech teacher told a girl he’d lock her in a cupboard and rape her if she didn’t stop talking. He was fired pretty quickly after that.”Ignoring Individual Needs
Discrimination
One story was, “My brother had a very bad stutter when he was a kid, and one teacher (Who had a heart attack and died about 6 years ago) would pick on him mercilessly. Once, my brother couldn’t say a word, so the teacher sat him down in front of the class under the blackboard until he could say it. He sat there the entire day crying.”
Another story was, “A teacher I had would make s****st and racist jokes all day, for the most part. The student body was afraid of him, but me being my dickish self, I threatened to report his actions. In response, he decided to create an example out of me. He went to the office and reported that I knew the admin password of the computers in the school — the password he gave me as an IT teacher to help repair computers, which was the class he was teaching.”
Inappropriate Comments
A Redditor replied, “Anthropology teacher said: “The day you die will be a joyous one.”
Another said, “All your friends only pretend they are your friends.”
Unprofessional Conduct
One user said, “I was in 6th grade, and this was on September 12th, 2001. It was in the minutes before English class started, and a bunch of students were harassing me and asking if I was happy about what my people (I’m Lebanese) did. Considering my parents left the middle east to get away from violence like this and how I was just as upset as anyone else after 9/11, I ran out of the room near tears. The teacher follows me out and sits down next to me, thinking she is about to console me. Instead, she yells at me and says I overreacted, and my storming out was unacceptable, and she made me go inside and apologize to everyone, “
Lack of Support
A comment was, “I missed the first day of a college class because I was attending my mother’s funeral. I told him the reason why I was absent, to which he replied,
“Well, I guess you can’t use that excuse again, haha.”
Excessive Criticism
A sad story was, “I was coloring and couldn’t stay in the lines. My teacher jerked my paper off the table, ripped it up, tossed it in the air, and made me pick it upright in the middle of class while everyone was watching.”
Physical Abuse
A user said, “I got choked by a teacher, kicked him to get him off me, then he blamed it on me. I got expelled. Later on, he got fired for picking a student up over his head and throwing him out the door.”
Ignoring Questions
One Redditor said, “I know about one situation where my sister was in the 4th grade. My parents got pretty upset over it. I think she asked a very legitimate question regarding geography, something the other students didn’t know. The teacher answered, smirked at my sister, and said, “What, are you stupid or something?” that had her in tears for the rest of the day.”
Semi Funny?
One funny story was, “My 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. H, decided it would be a good idea once to tell all of us that she was a witch and got her powers from thunderstorms. A few days later, the power went out due to a thunderstorm…and I can still remember her cackling when it happened. Scared the everloving crap out of me.”
Stealing
A user replied, “Back in second grade, I was wandering the school playground and came across a $20 note lying on the concrete near the kindergarten classrooms. I thought I would be responsible and give it to my teacher to return it to its rightful owner. I went back to class and told her I found it in the playground. She takes it, says thank you, and puts it in her purse as she walks away.”
Overreactions
One story was, “When my little brother was in Jr High, he wrote an incredible short story about the end of the world. In the end, a huge bomb explodes and kills most of the life on Earth. The school tried suspending him. Saying he was at risk for blowing up the school and that he needed psychological help if he was writing about the whole world dying. My mother was outraged. She refused to sign any suspension paperwork. They told her my bro was still suspended, so he wasn’t allowed on school grounds for 3 days. My mother escorted my brother to each one of his classes for those 3 days.”
Lack of Respect
A user replied, “My 8th-grade math teacher, Mr. Hoyle, called me a “wuss” for reading Shakespeare. He would also tell girls I liked that I had crushes on them while we were talking to embarrass me. As****ole.”
