1. Hit-and-Run
One person shared, “Before cell phones were standard: She got dinged by a hit-and-run driver on the way to the date. Not horrific, but she needed stitches in her leg. Fortunately, a firefighter happened to be walking past and helped her out of the road and did First Aid.”
She was super late but still showed up at my place. So I took her to the ER. We waited four hours before they took her away to do medicine. I waited another three hours searching for a positive mindset and trying not to worry.”
The Story Continues
“The receptionist couldn’t legally tell me what was up with my date. Right, right — I’m not a relative or emergency contact or anything.”
“I waited a couple more hours. Then, finally, I gave up and went home. She’d left the hospital about an hour after the doctor saw her; the nurse thought I’d left and told her I was gone. So she took a taxi home, took painkillers, and fell asleep.”
“I called her the next day to ensure she was OK and find out what happened. It turned out, no hard feelings, but she already had a date with the firefighter who was there when she got hit.”
2. Took You Long Enough
Another volunteered, “About 18 months after my wife died, I went on my first date. She asked why my last relationship ended, and I said, ‘My wife died.’ She was like, ‘I’m so sorry! When?'”
“’18 months ago.’ ‘Well, it took you long enough to freaking get over!’ So I immediately went into my car and drove home with a quick pit stop in a supermarket parking lot to cry.”
3. Smashing Pumpkins Standup
Someone stated, “I got stood up at a Smashing Pumpkins concert in 1996. It was a 90-mile drive, and my date had the tickets, and since neither my date nor said tickets showed up, I stood out front of the venue for about an hour before finally leaving.”
“My car wouldn’t start, and it took another hour before someone could give me a jump start, and somehow made it home, although I had no memory of the drive back. She told me she got sick the next day, but her sister said she was hooking up with another guy.”
4. Loli Froyo Shop
“Blind date at a froyo shop,” replied another. “Guy got way too excited to talk about Yuri Anime when I mentioned I identified as bi, then said I reminded him of a Loli character.”
“I got my steps in by running for the bus, and now I can never go to any Dollar Tree in Syracuse at the risk of running into him because he mentioned working there but never specified which. And I deleted Tinder and gave up on manifesting love.”
5. Vodka and Vomit
“Not ready and already hammered when I arrived to pick her up, drank a lot at dinner, drank more when we got to the movie theater. She passed out FIVE MINUTES into a movie she insisted she was desperate to see over a movie I suggested we both had discussed.”
“Then started snoring loud while everyone was trying to watch the movie. I woke my date up and told her I had a family emergency and had to take her home. She puked in the parking lot. When I dropped her off, she tried to stick her tongue down my throat, mmm, vodka and vomit. There was no second date.”
6. Cider Tasting Jerk
“I paid for a cider tasting at a small bar near where I live, and he ignored me most of the night. Instead, he told the bartender multiple times that he could make better cider with store-brand apple juice and yeast.”
“Then proceeded to bother the old couple next to us by loudly making jihad jokes and talking about the chest of a stripper he saw at some paintball tournament. So, safe to say, we didn’t have a second date,” someone confided.
7. Unfulfilling Life
Another volunteered, “My date asked me how I was finding meaning in life without having children. It must be so depressing to live unfulfilled because that’s all women yearned for or wanted.”
“He said if it worked out, he would give them to me and fulfill my greatest wish. He was very proud of himself for that. So I paid for my food and left out the back door on that one.”
8. You Drive a Minivan
One person volunteered, “I had dinner a few times with a woman. We just settled to meet at any given restaurant. We hit it off great. For the 4th-5th time, we met up to eat and hang out. We get there simultaneously, and she gets out of her nice SUV.”
“I get out of an older beat-up minivan. We talk in the parking lot a bit, and she says I could never date a guy like you. I’m like, OK, why? She said you drive a minivan. My truck was in the shop for work.”
9. You Can Keep the Shoes
Someone shared, “I had a guy bring me to an expensive shoe store and told me to get leather shoes or boots, anything leather, and the price doesn’t matter as he preferred that over dinner.”
“So I’m like, OK? I felt bad and weird simultaneously because who offers that kind of stuff? But I keep a good mindset and go with the flow.”
“Anyways, I got comfy 150-dollar shoes that were on sale. He told me to put it on and asked me if we could walk around for a bit. So we walked for almost an hour, browsing things and talking about life and all that shebang. He then asked me if my feet were sweaty and if he could have my socks and I could keep the shoes.”
10. NHL Game Ditch
Finally, another confessed, “I had won corporate seats at work for an NHL hockey game. Fantastic seats. Been talking to this guy for a while and decided to ask him if he wanted to come. I met him there, and when we went to sit down, he asked if I wanted a beer, and I said sure.”
“He left and never came back. Finally, I spotted him in the nosebleed seats with what looked like a bunch of his friends. It was embarrassing because the other seats beside is were work colleagues, and I had already introduced him to them.”
