Is there a popular fad, trend, or big thing you do not get? You’ve got company. Someone asked Redditors for examples of popular things that they don’t understand, and these are the top responses.

1. Hating Tourists

The number-one-voted response is “Hating on tourists that act like tourists. They paid good money to be there and experience things.” Agreed. That’s the idea of tourism, duh. 

One said, “Yeah, I was hoping covid might let them know where their bread was buttered, but that didn’t happen.” Several people (including a Hawaiian) noted how Hawaiians are huge complainers of tourists. Still, their entire way of life is made possible by tourism. 

2. Anti-Intellectualism

Anti-intellectualism. One noted that it’s “cultural rebellion.” Specifying that whatever the government and media want the people to do, some will always go the other way.

3. Toddlers & Tiaras

Several people agreed with the third most-voted response of Toddler & Tiaras. “Why is there a bikini competition?” Also, why are we forcing kids to participate in these terrible pageants to entertain adult viewers? Another noted the total creep factor of who this show may attract.

4. TikTok

TikTok. And every other short video format. “I like watching videos, but the one-minute clip to the following one-minute clip gives me a panic attack.” People are still trying to figure out how it works as a content format for so many people.

5. Giving Money to Religion

Many people in the thread didn’t understand tithing. One even stated, “I’m religious, and I can’t wrap my head around why anyone would want to throw all their money to these people. Let alone 15% of your income!”

6. Gender Reveal Parties

Gender reveal parties came in at number six on Reddit’s list. Several questioned why anyone would think that people care about the gender of their baby.

One explained, “My brother had one of those. I figured it out. It made his wife happy and gave the boys an excuse to drink in the middle of the day.”

7. Golf

Okay, I can’t be the only one who has heard people explain that watching golf is boring, but playing it is fun.

However, I enjoyed this Redditor’s description of the game, “Playing golf isn’t about the game. It’s about hanging out outdoors with your friends while driving a tiny car and having a couple of beers.”

8. NFTs

“NFTs,” one asked. “Come again, why is the picture of a random cat a value to invest in only because it is stored in a copy-protected format?” Another alleged, “NFTs are a pyramid scheme used to fleece unwittingly greedy people of their money.

9. Having Kids

Several people in the thread confessed they don’t understand why people voluntarily have babies. Many pointed out their expense and the state of our planet as reasons not to before one replied, “It’s hardwired into the DNA and Brains of every living thing to reproduce.”

10. K-Pop

Many Redditors didn’t understand the popularity of K-Pop. One elaborated the music has been around forever, but they didn’t get how it blew up globally overnight.
