TikTok To the Rescue! Ohio Mom Reveals How It Helped Her Find Her Toddler When They Went Missing in a Museum

TikTok is famed for introducing people all around the world to different trips and hacks on all sorts of subjects, from cooking and cleaning to parenting and relationships.

A mother from Ohio called Krista has recently posted a video on the platform crediting one of the parenting hacks that she first camera across on TikTok for helping her to find her three-year-old daughter when she went missing in a museum.

Losing sight of your child in a busy, public space can be a terrifying experience. All sorts of thoughts run through your head, and the feeling of relief you get when you are reunited with them can be overwhelming. It can cause so much emotional damage to a parent that it can stop them from wanting to take their kids to busy spots.

For Krista, her few minutes of panic came in the middle of a museum play area at the Center of Science and Industry in Columbus. Recalling the event, Krista said:

“This play place is huge – it runs the entire length of the giant science museum and the kids love it. It has a lot of nooks and crannies. I was talking to another mom that we came there with because our two boys were playing and all of a sudden I don’t know where my three-year-old is.”

TikTok to the rescue

After a couple of minutes of desperately trying to look for her and shouting out for her to no avail, Krista suddenly had a lightbulb moment and remembered a hack that she had seen on TikTok in relation to finding kids when they go missing. Explaining the hack, Krista said:

“I started calling her name but then I remembered a TikTok that I had seen probably over a year ago. It was a mom who had lost her kid in, I believe, a grocery store, and instead of yelling out the kid’s name, she yelled out the description of what her child was wearing, and she was able to find her kid way faster.

So I switched from yelling her name to describing what she was wearing which was a pink minnie mouse shirt. I’m sure people thought I was a little crazy but then other moms joined in with me and I was like thank God.”

Krista went on to say that after a couple of minutes of various people shouting for a girl in a pink minnie mouse top, a woman at the museum brought Lily back to her, proving in the process that the hack works.

Improving the hack

During the video post on TikTok, Krista admitted that she realized afterward that she could have done even more and gone into greater detail with her description of her daughter.

@krista.piper

I lost my 3 year old todah in a play place and thank god for tiktok – I’m so happy i saw that tiktok of what to do when your kid goes missing. I found her fast by raising my voice and saying a description of what she was wearing. Should have added her age or hair color but the description if little girl with pink minnie mouse shirt got thr job done finding her. #parents #parentsoftiktok #playplace

While her daughter, Lily, was found quickly she believes that if she had mentioned more about her daughter including her age or height, for example, then the situation could have been resolved even quicker.

On the whole, though, she was delighted with how things went and is just glad that she remembered the hack in her moment of need. Summarizing her thoughts on the entire day, Krista said:

“I probably looked like a crazy person, but it got the job done. I found my kid really fast versus me just looking by myself or just going up to groups of parents and being like ‘Hey, have you seen this girl with a pink shirt?

The fact that I saw that TikTok, meant that I knew what to do.”
