Have you ever been in a situation around another woman that caused you to fear for your safety? You’re not alone. After someone asked, “Women of Reddit, what’s a time when you’ve felt unsafe around another woman?” These are the top-voted replies.

1. Mean Moms

Sadly the number-one-voted response was, “Aw man, not everybody has nice moms.. that is all I want to say about that one.” Unfortunately, many other women in the thread related to this reality.

2. Defending Abusers

One woman shared, “Women who defend rapist, predatory or abusive behavior to get a guy’s attention. It happened a lot in school. I never really felt safe around my female classmates.”

3. Homeless With Mental Illness

Another volunteered, “Homeless woman at a bus stop suffering from mental illness. So I just avoided any direct eye contact.” Several other women agreed that their encounters with someone mentally ill at bus stops and train stations have been scary.

4. Women at Work

Many women in the thread agreed that women at work could be the worst. One noted, “At work. Women can be brutal.” The gossip, backstabbing, and judgment from some women in the workplace terrifies others.

5. The Tailgater

“When my husband and I first started dating, he had a female friend that I tried desperately to be friends with,” one woman confessed. “One day, riding in a car with her, she was tailgating a truck so severely, they started rolling coal at us.

It angered her, so she proceeded to tailgate even closer until the driver slammed on his brakes and got out of the truck to come to yell at her.

She didn’t seem bothered, seemed to enjoy it even, and was on a high for the next 24 hours. That was when I realized I needed to get some distance from this woman, or she might get me killed someday.”

6. Being Shoulder Checked

“Being shoulder checked by a territorial and jealous person downtown. I was minding my business, looking at my phone. She had two friends and a guy with her,” shared one.

After one needed clarification on ‘shoulder checks,’ another explained, “Walking by someone, typically in the opposite direction and leaning their shoulder into you or sticking it out so their shoulder hits and throws you off balance.”

7. Screaming Knife Lady

One woman shared, “A lady asked me for a ride, and once she got in the car and freaked out and had a damn knife. So I quickly got out of the vehicle, and when she screamed and ranted, I jumped in the truck and sped out of there.”

8. Abandoning a Close Friend

Another explained, “I went to a party where I didn’t know anybody except someone who I thought was a close friend. She met up with her ex-boyfriend and left with him, leaving me with a group of strangers under the influence. I never felt safe around her ever again.”

9. Women On Drugs

One woman volunteered, “I was on a tram with a friend. It was packed, so we were standing. This woman in her 30s or 40s was sitting down from us.

She was clearly high, talking to herself, with a deranged look. But, she smiled at us a bit and kept on. I have never been so creeped out. But, then again, I was like 13 at the time.”
