What’s one secret about your job that the general population would be upset about if they found out? For example, when I worked in a casino, the bartender showed me that people paid more for the larger beers but that the same amount was in each cup.

So some people were losing a couple of dollars for a bigger pour that didn’t exist. After someone asked the internet for other examples, they responded with these trade secrets.

1. Your Kids Do What You Say They’d Never Do

An elementary school teacher informed the thread that you would be shocked at your child’s behavior. She elaborated on the parents who suggested their child would never do something and told them, “Yes, they would, and they do.”

2. Gossiping About Your Medical History

A former medical administrator spilled the tea about medical staff, including nurses, radiology, CNAs, etc., when she noted they all talk badly behind patients’ backs.

She elaborated that they make fun of them and their medical conditions and expressed shock because there are rules against it. However, they are never enforced, and they will gossip about your medical history with no shame.

I can attest to this. One time I was in the emergency room during late night hours, and the nurses at the station were talking poorly about a patient until I came out and let them know how unprofessional and unethical their behavior was.

They apologized, but I’m sure I only became the next target of hateful gossip between them. Of course, it’s not everywhere and everyone, but it happens.

3. Eco-Friendly Stores

Another Redditor shared that they briefly worked for a store that is known for being very eco-friendly. For example, everything sells without plastic packaging, and they told people they didn’t sell any products made out of plastic.

However, little did the customers know that every week when the load came in, one employee removed the packaging of all the items before displaying them in the store.

Finally, they clarified that everything down to individual little teaspoons came in separate plastic packaging.

4. Dental Work

Many people in the thread called out dentists that are scammers, trying to convince people they need procedures or appliances that they don’t need. Someone warned the thread to get a second opinion if things aren’t adding up.

Again, I can confirm this to be true. I had dental work being done and no insurance. And the dentist knew I was paying cash and hadn’t been to a dentist for six months. The office was fancy too.

He was present whenever I was at the front desk making my cash payment for fillings. Finally, he told me I needed a crown, or it would evolve into a root canal. Well, I couldn’t wait the month for the mold because I moved across the country.

So when I went to get my crown done, the dentist had no idea what I was talking about, insisting I didn’t need this several-thousand-dollar uninsured procedure the other dentist swore I needed before I found myself in immense pain. That was three years ago, and I’m fine.

5. Prison System

A correctional officer in the chat explained many things about prisons that are despicable. He suggested many inmates belong in mental wards, but the money is in the inmate number, so they don’t get the help they need.

They continued, “Minority (primarily Black) inmates receive harsher punishments than White inmates, even when they both committed the same behavior.” Finally, the inmates are medically neglected, and the International employees are “treated more like indentured servants.”

6. The U.S. Army Environmental Impact

Someone explained that you could do everything possible regarding being eco-friendly and doing your part to recycle. However, you will NEVER do enough to offset what the U.S. Army uses, creates, and doesn’t recycle in mere hours.

7. Your Parents and Grandparents Are Miserable

“The nursing home is so dystopian that it would break your disbelief if you read about it in a science fiction novel.” One suggested that meeting the basic daily needs of elders requires a combination of “herculean effort, obscene luck, and tragic compromises.”

Additionally, many volunteered that shareholders love running skeleton crews. There are often only four people in a building to care for over 100 residents at any given eight-hour period.

8. Tossing Packages

One user explained that the post office throws EVERYONE’s packages. They elaborated that from its first entry onto the truck, it’s thrown all the way until reaching the carrier. And that usually, the carriers are the only ones not throwing your packages.

9. Gloves in a Bakery

A baker confessed that people get upset when salespeople don’t wear gloves when giving them bread. However, they explained that nobody wears gloves inside the bakery because it’s “stupid and inefficient.” Noting the entire setup is for show and not about hygiene at all.

10. Mental Illness

Finally, a therapist claimed that more than half of her clients had terrible childhoods with lousy parents. She suggested, “You can call some of these cases a mental illness, but what it is attachment trauma and neglect.”

She continued, “It’s about being shamed for being who they are. It’s about a maladaptive nervous system response because parents are too stupid to treat children like children and stop the spanking, yelling isolation (go to your room!), and other frightening parenting methods.”
