Deer Crossing
Deer are often along the side of highways, backroads, rural roads, pretty much everywhere. One woman shared that her sister once had an unusual encounter with a deer. One night her sister was driving at around 45 mph with her windows down. A deer thought it was the perfect time to cross the street and literally jumped into her sister’s car. The deer freaked out and pooped all over the car. When she pulled over, some people stopped to help. A man opened the door, and the deer leaped away.
Evil Hitchhiker
Hitchhiker is illegal along many highways nowadays due to safety hazards for drinkers and hitchhikers. A person shared a friend’s story of almost picking up a hitchhiker. One night, the friend was driving along a highway in Florida. He saw a hitchhiker on the side of the road and started to pull over to pick her up. As he started to pull over, he saw “pure evil” in her eyes and pulled away. Turns out the hitchhiker was Aileen Wournos.
Power Tricks
Construction is a no-joke job. There are many dangers, and people who work in the construction field have to take many precautions to make sure they make it home to their families each night. One construction worker shared a story of a coworker who was sawing a pipe with a handheld belt saw about 12-15 feet up in the air. As he cut, a support strap broke, and the pipe started falling. The man pushed off the pipe, did a back flip while holding the running saw, and landed on his feet on the ground with the saw still in his hand running. The worker said the crew stared in disbelief for at least 10 minutes before going back to work.
Missed Connections
Sometimes you meet someone and instantly hit it off and become best friends. You hang out often, learn a lot about each other, and then something happens that just causes some space, whether the vacation ends, one of you moves, etc. One man shared an experience where he met a guy on vacation in his teenage years, they became fast friends, but then the vacation ended. Years later, he runs into this guy on the NYC subway. He gets off and realizes his mistake without first realizing it’s him. A few years after that, he is getting out of a cab in California, and outside the club is this same guy! They finally reconnected and were best friends at each other’s weddings.
CPR
CPR training is something every person should consider doing. It could easily save someone’s life and the training is often less than a week long. A man was a paramedic and often taught other paramedics and police officers CPR. One day he is in a car accident and went into cardiac arrest. When police arrive, one officer starts doing CPR. The man is revived and survives. The best part was the police officer who did CPR learned a week prior from the man who was in cardiac arrest.
Celebrity High-Five
Running into a celebrity is often on top of many people’s bucket lists. It is often a once-in-a-lifetime experience unless you live in an area many celebrities call home. A young man was at a car show holding his hand up so his parents could see he was next to the Cadillac Batmobile. Next thing he knows, someone gives him a high five. When he turns to look who it is, he notices it is Adam West. Adam winked and continued walking.
Ninja Reflexes
Ninjas are known for having amazing reflexes, but what about when they are sleeping? A crazy moment shared by someone involved a sleeping friend, a Coke can, and amazing reflexes. The story goes that a man was sleeping on a bus when he opened his eyes. He saw what he thought was a floating Coke can. The man reaches out and grabs it. It turns out the guy’s friend was sitting in front of him and dropped the can. The man woke up at the perfect time to see the can in mid-air and grab it! Amazing timing and reflexes.
Airplane Friends
You expect to run into people you know around your hometown, sometimes in the city near your house or at a local grocery store. But never flying 1,100 miles away from home. One woman shared a story where she was sitting on a plane and swore she heard someone call her name. When she looked up, she noticed a friend from college sitting across the row from her. This friend had also gotten an interview for a different position at the same company. They stayed next door to each other in the hotel, and both got jobs. They now share an apartment.
Disney World Love
People love Disney World, and many try to take their families to this magical place at least once before their children grow up. One Disney World news story was surprisingly shocking. A woman took a picture with Mickey Mouse when she was a kid. Thirty years later, when looking at the picture with her fiance, they realize he and his family are in the background of the picture.
The Science Guy
Bill Nye is known as “the science guy.” Many of us watched him on PBS as a kid or in science class as middle schoolers. One person recalls running into Bill Nye at an airport. They chatted for a few minutes, and the person praised Bill Nye for all he had taught him about science. Once Bill’s plane was called, the person returned to his seat. A few minutes later, he hears Bill yell, “Hey kid, science rules,” before walking onto his plane.
Atomic Bomb
The dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945 was one of the saddest moments in world history. One person shares a story about his grandfather. He said one day, his grandfather woke up from a nightmare in a cold sweat. He told his family they were moving back to Okinawa from Hiroshima and to be packed within 48 hours. They were back in Okinawa within three days. A week later, the US dropped the atomic bomb.
Concert Goers
The best thing about concerts in the summer in the Northeast is the ability to enjoy the many outdoor venues available during the sunny and warm weather. One couple was on their way to a Dave Matthews Band concert in Saratoga Springs, NY, when they saw a man with a flat tire on his bike about half a mile from the concert venue. They pulled over to help, and it was none other than Dave Matthews himself. They brought him to the venue, and he gave them backstage passes.
Phone Number
We don’t get to choose our phone number, although that would be a cool option. But, sometimes, our phone numbers choose us. One WTF story told was how the last four digits of a person’s phone number was their birthday (m/d/yr), and the first three digits added up to the age at the time of getting the phone (x=yz).
Attempted Abduction
We learn to never get into cars with strangers no matter what, and this is something people remember either through adulthood because you never know if it could happen to you. It’s always important to be cautious and aware of your surroundings. A woman shared a story about her mother, who was walking in Lake City with her sister. A man pulled up and asked if they wanted to get a drink. He was rather handsome, but they turned him down. He drove away. Later that year, they saw the man on the television. It was Ted Bundy. The day the mother had turned him down for a drink, he abducted and killed his last Florida victim.
Social Security Similarity
Social security numbers are made up of 9 digits. We are each assigned our own number at both. One couple realized that their parents must have filled out the paperwork pretty closely around the same time because their social security numbers matched up until the last digit. But it gets even crazier. The boyfriend’s last number is 3, and the girlfriend’s last number is 4!
