I recently discovered a posting about unhinged positive affirmations with some great responses. The post read, “I’m working on having a more positive mental attitude. One thing I’m trying is positive affirmations. But, unfortunately, I have trouble sticking to/remembering them unless they are just absurd.”

“So, what are the most unhinged positive affirmations you can think of? My two current ones are ‘I’m a pretty princess, and everything just works out for me’ and ‘I’m a tiny baby, and I deserve a cookie.’ What are yours?”

From The Good Place: “I am a strong, independent acid snake in the skinsuit of a strong, independent woman.” One confessed, “I honestly do say this to myself, which is weirdly affirming. I want it embroidered on a throw pillow or something.”

Someone stated, “Mine is: I have the confidence of a mediocre white dude with a trust fund.” Another laughed, “I have a job interview in two days, and I keep telling myself this!”

Another user shared an unhinged positive affirmation from Kang on The Simpsons, “Onwards! Upwards! With reckless optimism- and always twirling, twirling, TWIRLING towards freedom!” So naturally, this led to others quoting the episode, “Ah, Bob Dole doesn’t need this.”

“Seeing this made me so happy. That line stuck with me, too, and I say it to myself whenever I need to be brave. It’s just so cute and funny,” a third confessed. Finally, a fourth said, “I say that too! I am the only one I know who does! I recently said it to my kids, unaware of Rugrats, and had them chanting it too!”

“My favorite self-confidence affirmation is -Embrace imposter syndrome. Revel in the fact that you have fooled everyone. You are a Trickster Goddess. You are the Imposter Child for deception and clever ruses,” someone stated. A second admitted, “I’ve been doing ‘fake it till you make it’ so long I’m not even faking it anymore.”

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”  "We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?” – It’s from the poem: Dream of this by Marianne Williamson,” stated one.

One person volunteered this positive affirmation, “My grandma used to recite: “I love myself. I think I’m grand! When I go out, I hold my hand. I put my arm around my waist. When I get fresh, I slap my face!” A second exclaimed, “Something I know for once! It’s a camp song we used to sing in 4H, titled “I’m a Nut.”
