After performing the Police hit ‘Roxanne,’ the talented singer told judges that the performance would be her last on the show because her heart was at home. She told Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie that the opportunity was “really rad” but that she was “going to get home” to her babies as they needed her.

"...I don’t think I realized quite how hard it would be to be away from kids. They’re still really young. There is a lot of guilt when you leave your kids to do something completely selfish. I feel like I’m not gonna win the show anyway, so I might as well go home.”

American Idol Contestant Who Quit the Show Due to “Mom Guilt”

Last month, Katy Perry made headlines for all the wrong reasons when she was accused of “mom shaming” an American idol contestant.

On the March 5th edition of the show, Perry told Sara Beth that she had been “laying on the table too much” when the 25-year-old revealed to the judges that she had three kids.

Perry has a young child of her own, Daisy, and critics believed that she should have known better than to make deregulatory comments to a fellow mom. The scrutiny on the California Gurls singer has once against intensified after Sara Beth sensationally quit the show last weekend.

Judge’s Reaction

After scraping through the first round of auditions with a 2:1 vote, Sara impressed the judges more the second time around, which prompted them to almost plead with her to stay in the competition.

Bryan was particularly vocal and told her that she was making a “mistake,” while Perry urged her not to give up and told her that she had opened the door to a new world.

Explaining her decision further, the young singer said:

“I don’t even know what show business is. I’ve been a mom since I was 18, and I’ve been married since I was 18..."
