Do you have an escape artist dog who notoriously escapes the yard and you’re running around frantically to go get it back home? Or do you know of someone who does and can relate to how frustrating and scary this situation can get?

This finance has had enough. She’s pregnant and tired and will not go chase the dog around anymore. A Redditor recently came to the threads to find out if he was a jerk in a situation where his finance refused to help him look for his dog.

The Runaway

The original poster (OP) said that his dog runs off at least once a week, and usually, his fiance would help find his dog, but not without protest. OP went on to say that he didn’t know how the dog was getting out of their fenced-in yard, so he recently installed cameras and found that the dog was scaling the 8ft fence.

To try and remedy the situation, OP attached “spinners” (long rollers) to the top of the fence, thinking that it would solve the issue. A few days after the spinners were installed, he brought the dog out and was playing with her when his phone rang. OP ran inside to grab and answer his phone, which was long enough for the dog to escape.

OP said he immediately went in search of her, thinking she couldn’t have gotten far, but he wasn’t able to locate her, so he went back to the house. When he returned home, he asked his fiance, who was curled up on the sofa, to come to help him, and she immediately said no.

The Argument

After this exchange, OP went back out in search of the dog. He returned home a second time after searching for 45 minutes and once again asked his fiance to come help look for the dog with him.

At this point, OP panicked and began yelling at his fiance, saying that she was a b who lacked empathy and that he was thoroughly disappointed with his decision to be with someone so heartless.

Redditors Opinion

One user responded by saying, “Why haven’t you put a harness on the dog and put a leash on it? They make leashes that spin around so the dog can go in multiple directions. This way, you can turn to say and not worry about your dog taking off. And yeah, training.”

Another user said, “Yep, my friend’s Husky is the ultimate escape artist, so now every time he goes out he’s on a harness with a long enough lead that he can reach all the parts of the yard but not scale the fence. I get the frustration of having to modify your fence to prevent a super smart dog from getting out, but if the rollers aren’t working you have to come up with something else.”
