The Most Delicious Low Calorie and Low Carbohydrate Cauliflower Crust Pizza Recipe!
You can also use this recipe to make cauliflower chips and a cauliflower bake which is so good and also low carb and gluten-free. Top your pizza crust or bake with vegetables and you’ve got a delicious meal you can feel good about. High in protein, fiber, and flour-free.
This is my go-to recipe for a healthy Cauliflower Pizza Crust. It’s so cheesy and delicious. I love that it’s an easy substitute for your regular crust. When I’m trying to stay away from bread and pasta this always satisfies my craving. It’s low carb and guilt-free!
I used to buy a head of cauliflower, chop it up and blend it but found it so time-consuming and I was always left with so much mess. I find it so much easier to buy riced cauliflower, you can find this in the frozen section or health section of your grocery store.
Veggie it up and Make it Your Own
You can add any toppings you want to your pizza, make one for you and one for your kids, they’ll love making your own pizza night. If you buy the riced cauliflower it won’t take you too long to make the crust, once you have it ready it only takes 8 to 10 minutes in the oven.
Don’t forget to add some cooking spray to your sheet so your cauliflower pizza crust doesn’t stick. More on this below.
Is Cauliflower Pizza Healthier than Regular Pizza Crust?
As mentioned in Health Line, it depends on your dietary needs and what you are looking for in a pizza crust.
A cauliflower pizza crust is generally higher in fiber and low in carbs but depending on your toppings and the amount of cheese you use you could be adding extra unhealthy ingredients to your pizza.
Cauliflower crusts are also usually lower in calories if you mind the cheese while preparing it.
Be mindful of what you add to your crust and toppings to keep it healthy for you. Cauliflower is an excellent source of antioxidants and reduces inflammation.
Does Cauliflower Crust Taste Like Regular Pizza?
Personally, I will say that the answer to this is no. It doesn’t taste like bread but I actually prefer the taste of cauliflower pizza. It has a soft cheesier taste to me. I love the texture and love how it tastes with the pizza sauce and toppings.
Cauliflower Pizza Crust Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 bag of Cauliflower (riced) or 2 cups
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- pinch of salt
- pinch of red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- bell pepper
- tomato sauce or pizza sauce
What You Need
- Baking sheet or pizza pan
- parchment paper
- cooking spray
- cheesecloth or a clean dish towel
- large bowl
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, you need to use parchment paper so it dries gets that crusty texture.
If you are going to rice your cauliflower yourself follow these instructions:
Wash your cauliflower and dry it as much as possible. Cut the florets off your cauliflower. Place your cauliflower florets in the food processor. You don’t need much stem at all. Pulse this in your food processor or Ninja for a few seconds until it looks riced. You should end up with about 2 cups of riced cauliflower.
Once your Cauliflower is riced:
- Cook your riced cauliflower in the microwave for 4 minutes in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Place your cauliflower mixture on a clean tea towel or your cheesecloth to cool, once it is cool enough to handle wrap it up and squeeze out the extra water. You will have to do this a few times to get all the water out. You don’t want too much liquid or your crust will be soggy. The more water you get out the better your crust will be.
- Add 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese, a pinch of salt, 1tsp of garlic powder, oregano, and basil. 1/4tsp of red pepper flakes (optional, this will give it a little kick) Add your egg and mix it all together. Add pepper to taste. Stir it all together.
- Once everything is mixed together you can start shaping your pizza dough on your lined baking sheet. Don’t forget the parchment paper and a little cooking spray.
- Bake your pizza crust for 8 to 10 minutes until it is golden brown. Remove your baked crust from the oven.
- Add your pizza sauce.
- Let the crust cool and start adding your toppings.
Now load up on those vegetables and add anything you’d like red onions, peppers, mushrooms, and green or black olives. Add any pizza topping you’d like to get that pizza flavor you love.
Once your cauliflower pizza is ready for the oven put it back in for a few minutes until your cheese is melted. Remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice up your healthy cauliflower pizza and enjoy!
Can you Freeze Cauliflower Pizza?
Yes! Once you’re done ricing your cauliflower and you’ve added the cauliflower crust ingredients spread out your pizza crust on a pizza tray or cardboard tray and freeze it for up to two months.
When you want to thaw out your pizza crust make sure it’s completely thawed out, dab out any extra moisture if there is any, then bake your crust. Bring your baked cauliflower crust out of the oven and add your toppings.
Place your pizza back in the oven for a few minutes and that’s it.
Cauliflower Pizza Crust Alternatives
If you are looking for alternatives to pizza crust you can also try ordering a pizza that has whole grain crust and/or thin crust. This will lower calories and reduce the white flour in a regular pizza crust. You can also use whole-grain English muffins to keep your portions down or use a whole grain tortilla wrap as a pizza crust alternative.
