Journaling is a very popular trend right now, and to be honest. I hope it never dies. Deciding which journal is right for you is the hardest part of the journaling process. There are dream journals, art journals, and food journals—each with its value. But one of my absolute favorites is the do it for yourself motivational journal.
A do-it-for-yourself motivational journal gives you helpful prompts while allowing you to take control of the journal. Giving you the much-needed space to write and help improve your daily thinking while giving you a little motivational help.

Why Use a Journal?
Keeping a journal helps create a little space to look within and get to know yourself better. You can write about your fears, thoughts, goals, feelings, or something you feel should be written down.
Writing in a journal also gives you some time to relax, de-stress, and wind down.
How to Get the Most out of Your Journal
Journaling is pretty straightforward. But sometimes, you may feel like you aren’t getting the most out of your do-it-yourself journal. You may feel like you aren’t doing it “right.”
There is no specific way to use a do-it-for-yourself motivational journal. But there are ways to ensure you use it to the best of your ability and get the most out of the journaling experience.
Some things you can do to get the most out of your journal are:
- Read over what you wrote.
- Use the prompts when you feel stuck.
- Start at the easiest section for you (grateful for, goal, etc.)
- Always write what you really want to.
- Write in a way that works for you (no poetry or famous quotes needed)
- Make journaling a priority
Remember, you can always take a break if journaling feels like a hard task or a chore. The last thing you want is to have no motivation for your motivation journal.
What is a Motivational Journal?
The main purpose of a motivational journal is to help you realize there is no goal that you can not accomplish or that is too big for you to achieve.
It is a place where you can write down your goals, aspirations, to-do list, etc. Many motivational journals include pages like goal setting pages or prompts, reflection or notes pages, quotes, and mantras or affirmations.
They help you stay motivated day to day and week to week. When using a motivational journal, you are looking to set yourself up for success, whether a small or long-term goal.
Do It For Yourself Motivational Journal
One day I realized I needed to start journaling. But, I couldn’t find a quick do-it-for-yourself motivational journal that fit into my busy mom schedule.
I tried a bullet journal and realized I didn’t have the time to figure out what to write.
After that, I tried a planner, but it didn’t have the types of prompts I wanted. Although it did come with some cute stickers. 😉😉
Then, I tried productivity expert Kara Culruzzula and graphic artist Tessa Forrest’s motivational journal. But it took a little too long to finish each page.
Finally, I decided to create my simple do-it-for-yourself motivational journal.

Most Important Things and Life Vision
There are a lot of important parts in our life, and often we have a specific vision for our life. Journaling about these parts can help motivate us.
Many journals have large sections for this. We often try to fill in ALL the blank space, which can become overwhelming.
When creating my do-it-for-yourself motivational journal, I decided on small organized boxes with prompts like relationships, career, finance, and happiness. These boxes allow you to jot down quick notes daily without feeling stressed.
