I used to read romance, it was a great way to relax, and wind down. I thought this was a form of self-help, and to a degree it is.
There’s nothing better than sitting down in your quiet living room with a cup of coffee or tea, everything is clean and done around you and you just sit and read. Before you go to bed. Cleanroom, quiet house. Dim lights. Snuggled up in your bed and you crack that book open and read. I love to read.

How I Went from Reading Romance to Self Help
One day I remember I was having an off day. I just felt sad, blah, no motivation. Nothing was getting me excited about my day. I wasn’t necessarily depressed but I wasn’t happy, excited, or motivated.
I decided to try to read The Secret. It was getting great reviews. People were loving this book. So I picked it up and gave it a go. I can clearly remember that this book was the beginning of my new outlook on life.

The Secret was so inspiring. To open up the possibility that we are in control of our lives by the power of our minds and what we think. Ever since reading this book I have been more cautious about where my thoughts go.
I’m a very paranoid, anxious person and for a long time, these thoughts consumed me. I always worried about my health and safety and once I had kids my anxiety and paranoia got a thousand times worse.
What if they got sick? What if something bad ever happened to them? These thoughts were crippling and still are. After reading this book it gave me the ability to better control my thoughts. As soon as I caught myself thinking anything negative or scary I quickly thought about something that made me happy.
The Power of the Universe
Think about a time when something kinda just happened. A time when you just had a feeling about something. Maybe it was a decision you made that you just knew would work out. It probably worked out because you had already made up your mind. You had already thought about it and you believed it into reality. No one’s opinion change your mind. You kept your thoughts positive and believed them.
The Secret tells you stories about people who have done just this. The Secret is a book I come back to again and again anytime I think I need to reset my mind and get focused again.
Self Help Books Will Change Your Life
After reading The Secret I felt like I had new air. I stood taller, I was focused, and motivated, and I felt powerful! This feeling was everything. From then on out I was always looking for new books to motivate me.
There are many times when you need to pick up a book or talk to someone on the same frequency as you to pump you back up. Everyone needs someone to pump you back up, and motivate you again.
Our big dreams take time, a lot of time and there will be times you question yourself, you hit a block, you get turned down. If you don’t have anyone to pump you back up you always have books! Reading these kinds of books gets my mind back on track and focused on what I want and what I’m going to do to get it.
Make this Book and Any Book You Love Work for You
There are things in this book and in almost every book that I read that I have to make sure I don’t take to heart. Some things you have to read and take from the book that you feel apply to you.
Read self-help books with an open mind and use it as a way to bring better things into your life. It’s a learning experience. Enjoy it and learn from it. I highly recommend highlighting the parts of this book (like you would a recipe book) that you really connect with and want to remember. Whenever you need a quick boost open the book and re-read through the highlighted sections.
Tips to Change Your Mindset and Open Amazing Doors in Your Life
Try to focus on your thoughts today, whenever you have a negative thought or feeling if you ever think “No, I can’t” or “I’ll never do that” or “No way” or anything along those lines, stop it, change your thoughts.
Focus on the present moment and lead your emotions with self-love, confidence, and high self-esteem. You truly can do anything.
Change your perspective on the thought. Let the Universe bring you all the positive things, all the good stuff. Trust me. When you go to bed tonight think of all the great things you have, a home, a family, a warm bed, a good book, your job, a friend, a meal, anything and everything you’re grateful for.
Appreciate it, be thankful. Even if you had a horrible day. Every night before I go to sleep I thank God for a good day today and an even better day tomorrow. I feel like it ends my day on a grateful note. Self-help books are a great way to expand your knowledge to get a new look at life, extra motivation, or see the world from a different perspective.
Write out your favorite parts of the book that speaks to you. Write out your favorite quotes, keep a journal of how you’re feeling and what you’re grateful for.
Journaling can be a very powerful tool and it can look different for everyone. Journaling can help you easily implement so many mindset habits that can change your life.
This could be in the form of praying, a youtube mediation, or settling in for a few minutes of quiet while you simply settle into the moment. There are many ways to start a meditation practice that fits into your life.
Meditation helps you reconnect with yourself and find out what you truly want in life and how to reach your goals. Once you quiet the noise and really become in intune with yourself it’s amazing what you start to learn about the life you’re meant to live.
